There are several reasons for a Project to do Building Energy Modeling

For a Project in Design Stage Building Energy Modeling is used for

  1. Evaluating cost and benefit of different design options like Orientation, Building Envelope Parameters, HVAC Systems, Controls etc. With building energy modeling the designer can perform cost benefit analysis for different design options to present to the client
  2. Energy Modeling is required to document credits related to Energy Efficiency in many green building rating systems (LEED, Estidama Pearl, Mostadam etc) as per ASHRAE 90.1 Appendix G.
  3. Claim Tax benefits such as 45 L, 179D etc..

For a Project in Operations Stage Building Energy Modeling may be used for

  1. Measurement & Verification of implemented Energy Conservation Measures (ECMs)
  2. Estimate the savings of potential Energy Conservation Measure
